Pretoria, the oldest branch of the Association outside the United Kingdom, has been in continual existence since November 1943! Initially formed at Wonderboom airbase just to the north of Pretoria in April 1943 it was then known as "Comrades of the Royal Air Force Association" and comprised largely of serving RAF personnel. By November the Royal Air Forces Association had come into being and the Pretoria branch was allocated the branch number #256. It has always been a small branch but has consistently been a keen and willing participant in South African Area affairs. Pretoria is currently providing SA Area with an Area Chairman. Pretoria branch meets in the Coalbox/Mark II (MOTH) shellhole, on Magazine Hill, Defence Property, Pretoria. This is situated off Potgieter St and almost directly above the Pretoria Central Prison (purely coincidental!) We meet on the 4th Sunday of each month at midday (with the exception of December). Our monthly get-together generally comprises of a short committee meeting that all are invited to sit-in on, followed by a social afternoon with the braai fires being well looked after, or a pie and a pint!
