DRAUGHTS

LAST CHANCE

The President of the South African Wargames Union today held a meeting with Mr Wouter van Beek, President of the International Draughts Federation. The meeting lasted a full three hours while the South African Wargames Union's draughts championship results and selection criteria were audited.

While Wouter van Beek expressed satisfaction with the results achieved, the point was stressed that before South Africa would be allowed to send a team to compete in the African Continental Championships, the results from the MUM FOR MEN S A Handicap Championships to be held on 12 December 1999 at the Saheti High School in Bedfordview, would have to be submitted to the International body. Only if the international body is satisfied with the results will the South African Wargames Union be eligible to send a team to compete in the African Continental Championships to be held in Senegal next year.

Should South Africa miss this opportunity to compete in the African Continental Championships, South African Draughts players will have to wait another three years before attempting to qualify for the World Championships.

The Union therefore appeals to all draughts players to take this opportunity to compete in the SA Handicap Championships on 12 December 1999.

Yours faithfully

For and on behalf of the SOUTH AFRICAN WARGAMES UNION

Colin Webster

President
