American goalkeeper who has experienced an almost

meteoric rise over the past 12 months. Was voted as the

United States' Major League Soccer Player of the Year

for 1997. Joined Liverpool in a 1m deal from Columbus

Crew and ousted David James as the number one keeper

at Anfiel d in the spring and then crowned it all with one

appearance for his native USA in the World Cup. Has

previous European experience with Bronby and

Galatasaray.
