Day
1: Johannesburg to Northern Berg (400km).
Our tour begins at Johannesburg (we will pick you up at your address)
and we travel south through the Free State stopping at Harrismith for
refreshments. We then proceed past the Sterkfontein Dam built to augment
the Vaal water system for Gauteng. Just before reaching the top of Oliviershoek
Pass we pass ‘Retiefklip’ (The rock on which Retief’s daughter painted
her fathers name and date of birth on while Retief was away negotiating
with Dingaan, chief of the Zulus) now a National Monument. We descend
the pass to Movenpick Resort just outside Royal Natal National Park where
we will spend the night.
Day
2: Royal Natal National Park and surrounds.
The day will be spent exploring the area by visiting the Royal Natal National
Park famous for its amphitheatre and many scenic walks suitable for all
ages. We will also visit other places of interest incuding the Drakensberg
pumped-storage and hydro-electric scheme (subject to prior arrangement
with Escom). The night will be spent back at Movenpick Resort.
Day 3: Central Berg.
We continue our journey along the foothills of the berg with a brief visit
to Cathedral Peak Hotel where we stop for light refreshments. Then on
to Champagne Castle area, home of the Drakensberg Boys Chior. Accommodation
tonight is at The Nest Hotel from where we can conveniently explore the
area.
Day
4: Central Berg.
After a leisurely breakfast we will head off to the Giants Castle area
and book in at White Mountain Lodge. After settling in, we will proceed
to Giant Castle Reserve spending our time sight seeing including a visit
to the Bushman museum.
Day 5: Southern Berg.
Today we will take it easy along the gravel road which runs south along
the base of the of the range taking in the magnificent views and mountain
peaks along the way arriving at Sani Pass Hotel at the base of the pass
by about lunch time. The rest of the day will be spent just relaxing in
this beautiful setting.
Day 6: Sani Pass.
After breakfast we will travel up the pass in a four wheel drive vehicle
and have a light lunch at the highest pub in Africa. We return to the
hotel in the afternoon.
Day 7: Sani Pass to Johannesburg (600 km).
An early morning start to our journey back home arriving at approximately
18h00.
