(29/5) Lance Not Leaving Earth Afterall?
Source: dailynews.yahoo.com
The Russian space agency said Wednesday that it had no plans to give 'N Sync (news - web sites)'s Lance Bass a ride to space, and that no other space tourist has secured a seat on a Russian rocket set to blast off to the international space station in October.
"The Russian Aerospace Agency has had no contacts whatsoever with Mr. Bass," agency spokesman Konstantin Kreidenko said. "We have received no requests from either him or his representatives, not to speak about signing any contracts."
The 23-year-old boy band member said in February that he hoped to travel into space, following in the footsteps of an American businessman and South African Internet magnate who have flown Russian rockets to the international station.
Last week, Moscow's Institute of Biomedical Problems, Russia's premier space medicine center, said Bass and former NASA employee Lori Garver were being evaluated for their space travel fitness.
But on Wednesday, Kreidenko said: "Anyone has the right to undergo tests in the Institute of Biomedical Problems. But that doesn't mean that such person is considered to be a candidate for space flight."
Kreidenko said no decision had been made about the next space tourist, and wouldn't comment on possible candidates.
The Russian space agency has kept one seat available in the three-person Soyuz spacecraft alongside Russian flight commander Sergei Zaletin and European Space Agency astronaut Frank DeWinne of Belgium.
Time is running out to fill the slot, however, because of the months of preparation the candidate would have to undergo. A Russian cosmonaut will start training for the mission if it appears that no space tourist will join the trip.
The world's second space tourist, South African Mark Shuttleworth, returned to Earth earlier this month, saying it was the best thing he'd ever done. Like the world's first space tourist, Dennis Tito, he paid around $20 million for the ride.
Bass has the support of a Los Angeles TV production company, Destiny Productions, to help fund his bid and to film the training and trip for a TV special.

(20/5) Lance Has Minor Heart Surgery; CFTCIV Tickets
Source: launch.com
*NSYNC singer Lance Bass recently underwent an outpatient "surgical procedure" to correct an irregular heartbeat, his publicist told
Reuters on Thursday (May 16). The procedure was performed several weeks ago in order for the singer to be able to pass the intensive
training required to become the world's first pop singer to take a Russian Soyuz rocket to the International Space Station.
The surgery was an outpatient procedure and Bass is doing well. The singer's heart condition was "not even remotely life-threatening,"
Bass' publicist told Reuters. "It's something he had wanted to correct for a long time, but being that he's planning to go into
space, it prompted him to move it up a bit."
Destiny Productions in association with The William Morris Agency will develop a television special about the singer's Space Flight to
be titled, Celebrity Mission: Lance Bass. The website lanceinspace.com has also been established to document the singer's
training for the mission.
In related news, an announcement is expected on Monday (May 20) regarding the on-sale date for tickets for *NSYNC's Challenge For The
Children IV celebrity basketball tournament fundraiser. Tickets are tentatively scheduled to go on sale during the first week in June via
Ticketmaster, and the event will take place in Orlando on July 27 and 28.

(20/5) Michael Jackson Hoping to Beat Lance to Space
Source: orlandosentinel.com, Just Justin
Michael Jackson is making plans to moonwalk on the moon. Hoping to beat *NSYNC singer Lance Bass and Aerosmith rocker Steven Tyler into
space, Jackson turned for advice to psychic pal Uri Geller, the New York Daily News reports.
Geller says he consulted Apollo 14 moonwalker Edgar Mitchell, who suggested Jackson start by talking to the Russians about buying a $20
million seat aboard a rocket to the International Space Station. But the price tag could keep Jackson anchored to Earth.
(12/5) Mama's Boys: Justin & Lance
Source: teenpeople.com, Just Justin
Lance Bass — a mama's boy? You bet.
"You can call me a mama's boy - I love my mother," he recently told
TeenPeople.com.
"We're very close. My whole family is very close - my grandmothers, they've been so supportive of everything. My grandmothers are the
biggest fans in the world. They sit there and watch MTV. That's all they do. One of my grandmothers has a crush on Carson Daly."
And this whole space thing — what does mom think about Lance's intent to participate in a Russian space mission? Not surprisingly, Diane
Bass is behind Lance all the way, he reports: "She's very supportive -she flew to Boston with me the last time I had [the] tests, and she's
right there with me."
-----
We have Lynn Harless, Justin Timberlake's mom, to thank for *NSYNC. Well, the name at least. According to legend, it was she who created
the name from the last letters of the guys' first names.
One thing's for sure: Lynn understands the life of a pop star.
She has managed such groups as Innosense and is the owner of an Orlando management company called Just-in Time Entertainment. Get it?
Now that's maternal pride.

(8/5) *NSYNC Song Gets Punk Makeover
Source: mtv.com, Just Justin
The thin line between pop and punk just got thinner.
Green Day, Blink-182 and Sum41 have long charmed the "TRL" audience with their pop hooks and eye candy videos, but now there's a new crop of punk bands going after pop fans a little more directly. OK, a lot more.
On Punk Goes Pop, released last month on Fearless Records, several up-and-coming punk bands cover hits from the cream of the pop star crop.
Further Seems Forever speeds up 'NSYNC's "Bye, Bye, Bye," Stretch Arm Strong gives Pink's "Get the Party Started" a hardcore makeover, and the Starting Line turn Jennifer Lopez and Ja Rule's "I'm Real" into a mosh pit anthem.
Britney Spears and Mandy Moore each have two hits remade, including a rollicking "... Baby One More Time," as does Madonna, whose "Borderline" and "Like a Prayer" join covers of "Heaven Is a Place on Earth" and "Send Me an Angel" as the album's retro pop salutes.
Few of the "TRL" usuals are spared, as Punk Goes Pop also features remakes of tracks by the Backstreet Boys, Destiny's Child, Nelly Furtado, Michelle Branch, O-Town and even Faith Hill.
In just a month, Punk Goes Pop has eclipsed the sales of the album's predecessor, 2000's Punk Goes Metal, which features more widely known punk bands, such as AFI, A New Found Glory, Guttermouth and the Aquabats.
"Some of the kids just getting into Saves the Day and Dashboard Confessional now were listening to Britney Spears last year," Fearless' Wyatt Miller, who organized the album, said. "We wanted to continue the Punk Goes series and Punk Goes Pop was a way to hit that audience and expose the punk bands we like to them."
Miller said not one of the bands he approached for Punk Goes Pop thought the concept was stupid. "Some bands even heard about it and asked us if they could be on it," he said.
Some of the groups, like Noise Ratchet and Yellowcard, have found their pop covers to be the crowd favorites in their live performances.
Fearless did not have to get permission from the artists because the lyrics are not altered, but Miller said he has heard that some of the artists are excited about the compilation. "I guess O-Town have told people to check it out," he said.
Next up for Fearless is Punk Goes Acoustic, which will feature punk and hardcore bands performing their own material unplugged. Miller expects it to be released by November.

(7/5) Bass to Begin Space Training
Source: rollingstone.com, Hannah
With 'N Sync's touring behind Celebrity wrapped, Lance Bass will now turn his attention back to outer space. Bass is expected to report to Star City Russia, outside of Moscow, on May 13th to begin training for a space mission that will likely launch in November.
The singer's quest will also be the subject of Celebrity Mission: Lance Bass, a television special that will follow Bass from training through the process of becoming an astronaut. The program is being developed by Destiny Productions in Los Angeles, which has inked the Phil Gurin Company (which produces The Weakest Link) to executive produce.
"Lance will stay there for a few months," says David Krieff, president of Destiny Productions. "He's committed and he's packing. I think we're gonna have a big party in Orlando with all the 'N Sync guys before he leaves." The few months could be as many as five, where Bass will undergo training with flight simulations and training for emergency situation responses. Should Bass pass muster in training, he would be completing a childhood dream; as a twelve-year-old, he attended Space Camp in Titusville, Florida.
As for the program, Krieff likens the extent of the coverage to The Osbournes. "We're covering all of it," he says. "Every inch of this thing has been covered and will continue to be covered 24/7."
The only outstanding issue is finding a second celebrity lined up, should something go wrong with Bass' training. Krieff says there has been a great deal of interest, but that he is still looking for a committed back-up.
(7/5) Eminem Explains His Disses Of Chris Kirkpatrick In 'Without Me'
Source: Allstar - cdnow.com, Just Justin
Wondering why Eminem singles out *NSYNC's Chris Kirkpatrick and Moby in his new song, "Without Me," from his forthcoming The Eminem Show?
The rapper told MTV's Total Request Live on Thursday (May 2) during the premiere of the video that it's because Kirkpatrick was the only boy band member who had the guts to say something back to him, after the rapper attacked the group and boy bands in general on his last album.
On why he attacks Moby in the song and video, Em sarcastically told TRL that he liked Moby, but feels bad that no one else does. The Moby attack is an obvious retaliation to the techno king's comments following the 2001 GRAMMY® Awards when he said the rapper was "very clever, but he's also a misogynist, a homophobe, a racist, and an anti-Semite.

(2/5) Coca-Cola Help Promote CFTCIV
Source: prnewswire.com, Just Justin
The Coca-Cola Company is contributing $1 million to *NSYNC's Challenge for the Children Foundation and helping the group to raise awareness for the Foundation, which raises money for various children's charities and programs nationwide. As part of the effort, Coca-Cola will be the title sponsor of this year's Challenge for the Children IV celebrity basketball tournament fund-raiser, which will be held in Orlando in July. In addition, an exclusive promotion designed to generate awareness of the Foundation will be conducted at Wal-Mart.
"We are thrilled to have Coca-Cola on board as our title sponsor of this year's event," said *NSYNC member Justin Timberlake. "Together our foundation and The Coca-Cola Company can help make a difference in children's lives."
Challenge for the Children was created by the members of *NSYNC in 1999 to offer financial support to children's programs and charities throughout the country. The Foundation's focus includes funding for schools that have suffered educational cutbacks for sports and music education. Special attention is paid to children's healthcare causes including, but not limited to, pediatric AIDS, adoption and foster care, teen pregnancy, alcohol/drug prevention programs and the fight against teen violence.
"*NSYNC's Challenge for the Children Foundation fits perfectly with the Coca-Cola Youth Partnership platform, which emphasizes positive youth development through achievement, the arts and athletics," said Suzanne Glynn Robbins, senior brand manager, Coca-Cola classic, North American Division of The Coca-Cola Company. "We share the group's dedication to youth causes and are excited about helping them spread the word about the terrific things their Foundation does."
In addition to the title sponsorship of the celebrity basketball tournament in July, Coca-Cola plans to build awareness and reach of the Challenge for the Children Foundation through a promotion this summer conducted exclusively at Wal-Mart. Specially-marked 18-, 20- and 24-packs of Coca-Cola classic will contain collectible stickers of the group (one per package) featuring an exclusive photo and quote from of each group member, and information about the Challenge for the Children Foundation and how to get involved. The promotion will run in participating Wal-Mart stores from mid-June through July.
(2/5) Last Tour For at Least a Year
Source: The Washington Times 04/20/2002, Just Justin
*NSYNC has been ruling the pop charts and touring nonstop for the past four years, but the boys - actually young men now - are getting ready for a break from the road.
"This will be the last tour for at least a year," Lance Bass says during a conference call that also includes Justin Timberlake and Joey Fatone.
"So we wanted to end it in a really cool way."
(2/5) *NSYNC Remembers TLC Singer
Source: dailynews.yahoo.com, Just Justin
Members of the group *NSYNC remembered singer Lisa Lopes on Sunday as an energetic performer who was always eager to work.
Justin Timberlake described Lopes as humble, fun, warm and loving.
"She had a passion for what she did," Timberlake said. "She loved to work and she loved to make music."
"She had high energy and a lust for life," said J.C. Chasez. "She was always energetic."
Lopes, one-third of the Grammy-winning trio TLC, died Thursday in a vehicle crash near Jutiapa, Honduras.
The *NSYNC members spoke of Lopes at a news conference in Orlando for the groups' Challenge for the Children Foundation. The foundation offers financial support to children's programs and charities around the nation.
(2/5) *NSYNC Woo With Music
Source: katrillion.com
Could *NSYNC be singing a song with your name in it?
In a recent interview, JC Chasez revealed that *NSYNC did what so many groups, including O-Town, the Beach Boys and the Beatles, have done before them -- sing a song about girls.
In fact, Joey Fatone, now known as the group's resident movie star, used the group's musical prowess to woo his crush.
"Five years ago, we did a song that never made the record," JC said. "We did a song that had like 10 girls' (names in it) and every time the chorus came, we'd sing two different names in the chorus to make it like all whatever.
"And I'm going to tell you, we did it when we were first starting out, man, and Joey sang this song to a girl because her name was in the song, trying to impress her, and we all busted him. We pounded him for so long."
(2/5) Eminem Disses *NSYNC, Limp Bizkit & Moby in New Song
Source: katrillion.com
Christina Aguilera, Fred Durst, Carson Daly and Pamela Anderson took pop culture punches on "The Real Slim Shady" in 2000. The Spice Girls were name-dropped on "My Name Is" in 1998.
In 2002, *NSYNC's Chris Kirkpatrick, Limp Bizkit and Moby will be jabbed on the first single from Eminem's new album "The Eminem Show," according to MTV News.
On "Without Me," the guys suffer softer slights than Christina or Pamela did. Sure, Eminem raps about kicking Chris and Limp Bizkit where it hurts. He also says that Moby is too old, at the age of 36, to be in tune with what people want to hear and that "nobody listens to techno."
He hits on MTV, the FCC and other white rappers, saying that without him, the world wouldn't be interesting.
The video for "Without Me," which debuts Wednesday on MTV, is sure to provoke controversy. Eminem is dressed as Osama bin Laden.
