Andrea Bocelli is a blind opera tenor who hails
from Tuscany, Italy. He had released one album before teaming up with
Sarah Brightman for the duet Time
to Say Goodbye. For both artists, this was to be their most successful
single and helped make Andrea's two later albums instant successes
worldwide.
The story behind this marvellous production is that Sarah was in
a cafe one day and heard the theme of the song played. She was very
impressed and told Frank Peterson
about it. The two then proceeded to track down the original singer,
who was Andrea Bocelli. His original, solo-voiced rendition was
featured on his debut album. Frank then adapted that original version,
added some additional lyrics, re-orchestrated and re-arranged it
for the duet.
Although the original had had some success, it was only with Sarah
Brightman that it became a worldwide phenomenon.
