:: INTRODUCTION
From the get-go, one realises that this is something special: a dark and haunting odyssey of Medieval voices and modern electronica. What is striking is the simplicity of the musical arrangements often just beat, chant and faint synth-chords. But this simplicity is deceiving, as great time has been spent to weave a complex album. All the tracks segue beautifully with one another, repeating instrumental codas and constantly enticing the listener with complex and often-times unsettling lyrics. The trademark 'instrument' of Enigma is the synthesised sound of the Japanese flute called a shakuhachi. This instrument weaves its way throughout the album and has become popular amongst many Enigmatic bands. Sensual, forbidden and redemptive. |
