General - Advice
From the Saix
Forums:
- ** This is a SLOW game. Get your head around that.
- ** This is NOT RANKED
- For all you Bf2 guys trying this out, this is a completely different game.
Patience is what is needed. Rounds can last up to 4 hours so there's no point in
rushing anything. Patience and planning rules, rushing in will just get you
killed and compromise you squads assault.
- When you go man down, you have THREE MINUTES before you die, not 15 seconds. So
no need to just give up, let your squad and medic attempt to clear the area and
revive you.
- It's a game of patience and durability.
- Accidentally Team Killing (TK) 1 guy is understandable. Wiping out two thirds of
a squad with your vehicle mounted MG as you race past is not. Even if you do say
"soz".
- Check your map, be aware of where the squads are operating. Use the grey matter
between your ears for a bit of FoF identification;
- What weapon is he carrying?
- Where are the nearest friendly squads opperating?
- Which direction is he/they moving?

How do I report an enemy contact?
Although Project Reality has the Contact rosette (Pressing Q), this doesn't
identify the enemy on the map. Reporting a hostile contact requires either
typing (not recommended) or VOIP. When reporting a hostile contact, give the map
coordinates (i.e. F6), and if possible the sector within that grid reference.
Each block on the grid is divided into 9 squares, so by providing a keypad
reference, others will be able to accurately target the contact you're
reporting. For example, you could report F6 Keypad 5. The hostile will then be
smack-damn in the center sector of that block.
Another method of reporting; to be used for time critical situations is to give
the bearing of the hostile contact (i.e. Conact at 120 degrees.). This assumes
one critically important thing: those you're reporting to are in close proximity
to you. A situation that merits this type of reporting is when you're togther,
in a squad. Or communication in a tank or chopper between driver and gunner.
It's beyond pointless to call out "he's on my 50" when the nearest friendly is
halfway across the map.
How do I request a kit?
There are other kits available, other than those allowed on spawning. In
order to get one of these kits, you need to move to a supply crate. Pressing T
will open up a rosette that will allow your to request a kit - if it is
available. In this way advanced kits like sniper, grenadier and squad leader can
be requested.
Crewmen and Pilots kits can be requested in a additional manner, by moving to a
vehicle and requesting the kit there. These kits may also be requested from the
Supply Crate.
General Snippets of Advice
-
Forget what your learnt playing Battefield 2. Most of it doesn't apply here.
-
Normal troops do not get a parachute. Only pilots get a parachute.
- To switch
to incendiary grenade, press 9. This is used to destroy vehicles, emplacements
and supplies.
- Most normal troops get a spade. This is used to assist the Squad Leader in
building implacements. He does not have a spade, so to run off while he's trying
to build and fortify is considered bad manners.
- Camouflage works better in Project Reality. There's oodles of undergrowth,
shadows and cover to hide behind, near and in. Use it. Hiding in shadow will
make you harder to spot.
