Somehow I Knew

On a branch of summering celtus
At the level of my balcony
deeply hidden in the green
I heard a melody intriguing
in the gently waving sheen
of mistily seen swift foliage
folding within its dancing being
an enchanted song-magician
calling with a patient urging
from within that breathing merging
something deeply recognised but new
ancient and yet freshly foreign
appealing to a fluttering, a winging
to a singing in my inmost being
to a flying that somehow I knew
to a search that never ending
needs to sing in true extending
of a soaring inner blending
of a question and its answer
and a quest that in its venture
already finds sweetly awakened
fleet glimpse of an eternal truth
