Backround

The Baal Shem Tov Shul was founded in 1995 corresponding to the hebrew year 5756. The members started by meeting in the basement of the home of Dr. Stanley Tenzer. The shul found its home in 11th Street Orange Grove a year later when the Rabbi bought and restored an old house. As can be seen from the photographs in the web site, the shul is colourful and full of a special character.

Location

The shul is located in Orange Grove Johannesburg, inside an established Eruv.

( (011) 640-6661 Intl. 27 - 11 - 640 - 6661

This page is dedicated to the memory of Rabbi Gavin Michal's mother who passed away on Sunday evening 25 January 1998, corresponding to 28 Tevet 5758. MHDSRIP

When not davening and having shiurim, you can often find the members discussing their many diverse hobbies: Building airplanes, boats, houses (out of rocks), farming, computing, astronomy etc.

And of course the many business fields: Rabinate, advertising, textiles, automated doors, medicine, engineering, pharmacology and many more !

More Pictures of the Shul: (See information below on pictures below)

Surrounding the ark, you will notice stones stuck to the tiles. Each stone is sourced from the keverot (tomb or graves site) of the tzadikim, and each stone has a plaque beneath it, indicating from whose kever it comes.

Notice the magen david on the wall on the inside of the ark, in the photograph above.

The writing on the wall pictures and translations may be found under :
